Kerry*(5), home educated
(February 2021 - Present)

Background

I was contacted by Kerry's mum as she was struggling to get Kerry to be interested in learning maths and was concerned about teaching her Phonics. She was also concerned that Kerry may struggle with me due to her having Selective Mutism (when the person's anxiety reaches such a high level that they are unable to communicate).

How we worked together

We decided to split the sessions over two half hour slots to keep pressure to an absolute minimum. One session on Maths and one on Phonics and early reading skills. All the activities had Kerry's interests sprinkled in them and were interactive. Her confidence with using the BitPaper platform has soared and she now works confidently without help from her parents.

The Outcome

Kerry is now extremely confident working with me and we have a lot of fun together. We have worked through a lot of the Phase 2 sounds and common exception words and is often now eager to read independently.

In Maths, she has improved her understanding or numbers and how they relate to each other, place value, adding and subtracting.
