What We have been up to

Wow! What a crazy, exciting year this has been. It has been wonderful to have something extra to bring joy during a truly difficult time.

We started off doing face to face and online sessions, using BitPaper as our platform. Then, November saw us transform into all online. This was amazing fun and a learning curve for all. Throughout my teaching career, I have always been face to face with children and am well trained using physical resources and games. The challenge that the pandemic brought was moving to online and transferring my skills to the virtual world.

However, this way of tutoring has allowed for us all to stay safe, keep continuity and have lots of fun locally, around the country and around the world. My timetable has included teaching here in Hedge End, Kent, and Manchester. It has also allowed me to teach in France, Holland, Morocco and India!

In a year when life has been difficult for all, I have been shown resilience, perseverance and how to find the joy in all situations. This is thanks to all of the wonderful children that I have had the opportunity to work with. Every single child is different and needed to work with me for their own personal reasons. Some are educated at home, some are in a school setting. Some have some SEND, such as dyslexia or have a diagnosis for autism, while others needed support with processing the information and boosting their confidence. It has been wonderful to see children grow and educate themselves in a way that is independent to them.

During our sessions, we have played games and carried out activities which involved Phonics, English, Reading and Maths. All sessions are based around what the child loves and what they need support in. We have tried to work inline with what they are learning about at that current time to give their education an extra boost. Of course, the children's support network have been a wonderful part of the team and keep me updated between sessions or ask a quick question if their child is finding something difficult. This helps to create a community based team with the child always being at the centre.

Currently, we will be staying online but this is going to be reassessed in September.

Thank you for the most amazing year,

Louise
